As a 5th generation Humboldt County native, who was raised overlooking the beautiful Northcoast, I find a lot of pleasure capturing the rural surroundings in my paintings. There is a wealth of material from the beaches, rivers, Redwood forests, mountains, and the historic architecture. I’ve been fortunate to travel to other parts of the country and world, and that has made me appreciate the uniqueness of our Northcoast.
Because of the variety of subject matter, it is a little difficult to set limitations by means of style or forms of expression, as if to say that the broader your ability to see things, the broader your ability to paint them. My art will evolve and the experience excites me. At this time I’ll be showing works that could be described as abstract impressionism or abstract expressionism depending on whether it’s a landscape or human figure. By abstraction I’m reducing what you actually see, giving emphasis to color, shape, value, and texture.
I love Humboldt County and I know it will evolve over the years, just as my art, some good, some not, but hopefully my visual legacy will record the best part.
